Senior

A 2-22 to 1-19  loss against Loughmore Casteiney in the County quarter-final brought our  season to an end. The team gave its best display of the year but just came up short against the Mid champions. The teams were tied on 0-11 each at the interval.

Seven minutes into the second half, a goal from Willie Cleary put MacDonaghs four points clear. However, two opportunist goals from Loughmore in the 39th and 42nd minutes put them two clear. Kilruane kept in touch right to the finish, and with three minutes of normal time left, the gap was still just two points. As MacDonaghs went in search of a goal, Loughmore hit four unanswered points to book a semi-final place.

Thanks to the players, manager Thomas Williams, coach  Adrian O’Sullivan and the backroom team for their efforts  during the year.

Team: Páidí Williams, James Cleary, Craig Morgan, Eoin Hogan, Kieran Cahill, Niall O’Meara (0-1), Darragh Peters, Conor Austin, Aaron Morgan (0-2), Willie Cleary (1-9, 0-9 frees), Cian Darcy (0-3), Mark O’Neill, Thomas Cleary (0-1), Jerome Cahill (0-3), Kian O’Kelly (0-1). Minor

We claimed the Minor ‘A’ title for the first time since 2006 with a 1-22 to 1-8 victory over Toomevara in Puckane. This was the ninth time to win the minor championship. The previous victories were in:

1952 Kilruane MacDonaghs 5-5 Nenagh 3-3 Captain Paddy Murray

1964 Kilruane MacDonaghs  8-6 Newport 1-11 Captain Jim McLoughney,

1971 Kilruane MacDonaghs 8-14 Borris-Ileigh/Templederry - Naomh Cualann 3-2  Captain Gilbert Williams

1972 Kilruane MacDonaghs 6-8 Burgess 0-4 Captain Jimmy Ryan

1973 Kilruane MacDonaghs 8-5 Nenagh 7-6  Captain Joe Hutchinson

2004 Kilruane MacDonaghs 1-12 Roscrea 0-10 Captain Colm Williams

2005 Kilruane MacDonaghs 3-16 Lorrha 2-4 Captain Martin Walsh

2006 Kilruane MacDonaghs 2-14 Toomevara  2-10 Captain Eoin Hogan

A large crowd assembled in Puckane for this eagerly-awaited contest. MacDonaghs had the aid of the breeze in the first half. In the opening minute, Tommy Burriss got Kilruane off the mark with a point. After twenty-three minutes, the score was 0-8 to 0-1 in favour of the Magpies. Controlling the game in every sector, MacDonaghs took a 0-11 to 0-2 lead into the dressing room at the interval. On the resumption, Kilruane continued in the ascendancy and outscored Toomevara 0-4 to 0-1 at the start of the third quarter.  In the 50th minute,  Toomevara  were thrown a lifeline when goalkeeper Darragh  Hayes netted from a penalty. He added a point from a free, and the Toome supporters began to find their voice. Hugo Healy and  Patrick Hackett traded points. Any hope of a revival by the Greyhounds was thwarted in the 56th minute  when Tommy O’Meara rattled the net after taking a pass from Cillian Healy and the huge MacDonaghs following knew that the Cup would be crossing the border into Cloughjordan parish.

After the game, Joey Murphy, vice-chairman of North Tipperary Bord na Óg, presented the trophy to captain Michael Cleary. Congratulations to the players and management on this latest success.
